2013 President's Award Recipient

Sherry Case and President Jim Patterson
Every year, since 2009, the PHDA President chooses one person from the Portland Scottish Highland dance community to receive the President's Award for their ongoing support of Highland dance.

The 2013 President's Award went to Sherry Case of Portland, Oregon.

Sherry has been an active member of PHDA since 1982, beginning as a dancer, then as both a teacher and parent. She held the office of PHDA President for two terms. Sherry also teaches with her daugher, Jocelyn Case, at the Case School of Highland Dance in NE Portland.

Sherry has been particularly involved with fundraising, running the snack bar, and even partnering to make a quilt that was raffled off. She has also helped created a line of clothing promoting Highland dance that dancers still wear to this day.

Her biggest event was to propose, chair and cater the first PHDA Tartan Tea and Silent Auction 6 years ago. The fundraiser proved so popular that the association continued it for four more years, making PHDA thousand of dollars that was used for running competitions and financially assisting Portland dancers who attend the USIR.

Sherry would like to thank President Jim Patterson for choosing her for this honorable award.

Thank you Sherry for all your hard work and support of Portland Highland Dancing!
