Fall Competition photos and results

Thank you to all the volunteers, dancers, pipers and teachers for attending the PHDA Fall Competition.
We welcome a new Board of Directors! These volunteers will be our interim board members until we hold our annual election at the Spring Competition. Meet the new board.

Special thanks goes to our Past President and dance dad, Jim Patterson, who has held the torch for many terms. Thank you Jim for all your hard work! Jim will continue to serve on the board as Treasurer.

Thank you to our former Competition Secretary and PHDA dance instructor, Ann Johnson. Ann stepped up and took on the large task of organizing our dance competitions for the past few years. Her dedication to the dance association is much appreciated and we thank her for her ongoing support!

We invite dance parents, grandparents, former dancers and friends to volunteer at the Winter Competition. Show your support for the dancers! Read about volunteer opportunities.

2015 President's Award Recipients are Jacki Ochs and Lynda Ochs

Every year, since 2009, the PHDA President chooses one person from the Portland Scottish Highland dance community to receive the President's Award for their ongoing support of Highland dance.

The 2015 President's Award went to Jacki Ochs and Lynda Ochs of Seattle, Washington.

This year’s award recipients are a couple of Highland Dance junkies.  If you have been around the sport long enough, you know the Ochs clan (my early recollection of them is at summer outdoor competitions with a flurry of activity under their canopy).  Jacki is the current Registrar of the Seattle Highland Dance Association.  Lynda is the current President of SHDA.

The Ochs duo went above and beyond helping us with our three dance competitions this season.  From helping set up the scrutineering to various tasks the day of each competition, the Ochs helped things run smoothly this season.  Bottom line – they just get it.  Thank you for your efforts this season and all you both do to nurture and support the sport of Highland Dance!

Thank you!

Jim Patterson
PHDA President

Thank you for a wonderful dance season! We'd like to thank the teachers, dancers and volunteers. Your support makes it possible for us to have indoor competitions, an annual workshop, and dance scholarships.

2015 Winter Premier Competition, Pre Premier Festival and Premier Workshop

New this year, a festival exclusively for Pre Premier dancers! The Winter Competition will feature a competition for Premier dancers Saturday morning and a festival for Pre Premier dancers in the afternoon.

A festival looks very much like a competition but there are no prizes awarded.  Instead dancers receive written comments from the judge for each dance. At the end of the festival, the judge will share general comments with the dancers and audience before the dancers receive their personal written comments. This is a wonderful opportunity for Pre Premier dancers to get personalized feedback.

The Premier workshop will be on Sunday, February 15, 2015. Workshop Instructor will be Mary Munro, Burnaby, BC. Location and schedule TBA.
